Itinerary for Babu’s Camp

Off the beaten path

Explore areas few people know exist, stay away from the crowds and meet one of the last hunter gatherer tribes, the Wahadzabe.

Itinerary

Off the beaten path Day 1,    

Arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be transferred to Shangazi House situated on the slopes of Mount Meru. The afternoon can either be spent around the swimming pool or relaxing in the beautiful and peaceful gardens while catching up on some needed rest before your safari starts the following day.

Off the beaten path Day 2,             

Wake up to freshly brewed Tanzanian coffee or tea on your porch. A full English breakfast is served before the journey starts. In safari vehicles drive out to Mkomazi National Park, the newest National Park in Tanzania. You will arrive for a late lunch at Babu’s Camp. The afternoon can be spent exploring this unknown national park, although very famous for its Rhino Sanctuary, ran and established by Tony Fitzjohn. Dinner will be served under the African sky.

 Off the beaten path Day 3,   

Early wake up calls and thereafter a full day game drive. For those who feel more adventurous, the afternoon could be spent exploring the bush by foot.  The day’s goal is to search for the parks pack of African Wild dogs, a very rear sighting anywhere in Africa.

Off the beaten path Day 4,             

After breakfast it is time to take farewell of Babu’s camp and head in the direction of the airstrip. Board your plane and fly to the world famous Serengeti National park. The flight provides spectacular views of the Ngorongoro Crater. Landing on the vast plains of the Serengeti, you will find yourself surrounded by the most amazing wildlife spectacle in the world, the Great Migration. During the months of June to October you may be lucky to witness the wildebeests crossing the great Mara River. From December to March, witness the migration in the Southern Serengeti plains which is the wildebeests calving ground.  After experiencing the day in the African wild a calming and relaxing evening awaits you.

Off the beaten path Day 5,    

The whole day is spent exploring the surroundings and following the great wildebeest migration. You may find them crossing a river, being stalked by predators, or just following one another grazing along the plains. Lunch will be served in the heart of the African bush. Continue the afternoon driving across the Serengeti plains and end the day enjoying a sundowner at one of the many places that have been selected for their breathtaking view. Before dark you will head back to camp, enjoy a hot shower then meet up around the campfire for refreshments.

 Off the beaten path Day 6,            

This day is flexible and together with your guide you can plan your day according to your personal interests and mood. You can choose for another adventure into the vast plains of the Serengeti or if you prefer spend the day at our comfortable camp enjoying the scenic views of the wildlife.

Off the beaten path Day 7,                                                 

Go on a last morning game drive before heading back to camp for brunch, or take the chance to have a sleep –in before continuing to your next safari destination. Today is the day you leave the Serengeti on a schedule flight and  fly out to Manyara Airstrip. Thereafter the journey continues by vehicle to Lake Eyasi, where the night is spent at Kisima Ngeda.

Off the beaten path Day 8,    

Wake up to the beautiful views of Lake Eyasi. The day offers a wide variety of unique and authentic cultural experiences. Spend the morning with the Hadzabe men learning their ways of hunting and gathering (one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes in Africa) and the afternoon learning about the Hadzabe women and children’s way of life. This unique opportunity will allow you to experience a trip back into human survival in the bush.

Off the beaten path Day 9,    

Today you will have the opportunity to visit with another unique tribe, The Datoga whom are a pastoral group like the Maasai.. The work of the local black smith and the Datoga boma is an experience not to be missed. End the afternoon enjoying the sunset with a sundowner on our lovely sundowner deck.                            

Off the beaten path Day 10,            

Take advantage of the relaxed schedule and sleep in before breakfast is served. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Lake Eyasi one last time before your departure for Arusha. Arrive at Shangazi House, Arusha in the afternoon and wind down from your safari at this comfortable homely house.

Off the beaten path Day 11,                                                

Depending on your departure time, spend the day exploring Arusha city and do some souvenir shopping or relax at Shangazi House before heading out to the airport in the late afternoon. If you have a morning flight to your next destination or home, enjoy a nice homely breakfast before departing to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Itinerary for Lukuba Island Lodge

Tanganyika Expedition

From a homely boutique cottage on the base of Mount Meru to the greatest wildlife spectacle in the world, from a hidden Eden in Lake Victoria to a hunt with the Wahadzabe – the great Tanganyika expedition.

Itinerary

Tanganyika Expedition Day 1,                  

Arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be transferred to Shangazi House situated on the slopes of Mount Meru. The afternoon can either be spent around the swimming pool or relaxing in the beautiful and peaceful gardens while catching up on some needed rest before your safari starts the following day.

Tanganyika Expedition Day 2,

Wake up to freshly brewed Tanzanian coffee or tea on your porch. A full English breakfast is served before the journey starts. Driving in our fully equipped safari vehicles, roughly three and a half hours later you arrive at Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp.  The afternoon is a time for relaxation lying around the pool or to take the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the area.

Wake up to the beautiful views of Lake Eyasi. The day offers a wide variety of unique and authentic cultural experiences. Tanganyika Expedition Day 8,        

A last morning game drive before heading back to camp for lunch. Shortly hereafter we say farewell to the Serengeti and leave with a scheduled flight to Tarime airport. After a one and a half hours drive you will arrive at Tembo Beach, Musoma, where a Dhow boat awaits you. After a forty-five minutes sail through the world famous Lake Victoria, you will arrive at Lukuba Island Lodge. Arriving late in the afternoon, relax by the pool or outside deck winding down from your safari with a sundowner.

Tanganyika Expedition Day 9,                  

Spend some time relaxing on the beaches of this beautiful island or by the pool. You can also choose to enjoy some activities including canoeing, hiking around the island viewing tropical birds and small mammals, or go fishing off the shores for Tilapia and Nile Perch.

Tanganyika Expedition Day 10,       

Take advantage of the relaxed schedule and sleep in before a big brunch is served.  Once again enjoy the sailboat trip back to mainland where your flight will be waiting to take you back to Arusha. A vehicle transfer will take you to the beautiful Shangazi House where your last night will be spent.

Tanganyika Expedition Day 11,       

Depending on your departure time, spend the day exploring Arusha city and do some souvenir shopping or relax at Shangazi House before heading out to the airport in the late afternoon. If you have a morning flight to your next destination or home, enjoy a nice homely breakfast before departing to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Itinerary

Livingstone Day 1,                

Arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be transferred to Shangazi House situated on the slopes of Mount Meru. The afternoon can either be spent around the swimming pool or relaxing in the beautiful and peaceful gardens while catching up on some needed rest before your safari starts the following day.

Livingstone Day 2,                

Wake up calls with Tanzanian coffee or tea on your porch. A bid English breakfast is served before departure to Arusha Airport, depending on traffic a rough one hour’s drive. A small caravan plane will await us and fly us to the world known Serengeti National park. Thousands of wildebeest will await our arrival when we land on a tiny mud strip in the middle of the Serengeti. If we are lucky we might see them cross the Mara River, where hundreds of crocodiles are waiting in ambush. We arrive to Kampi Kampi Serengeti for lunch and thereafter head out for an afternoon game drive.

Livingstone Day 3,       

The whole day is spent exploring the surroundings and following the great wildebeest migration. You may find them crossing a river, being stalked by predators, or just following one another grazing along the plains. Lunch will be served in the heart of the African bush. Continue the afternoon driving across the Serengeti plains and end the day enjoying a sundowner at one of the many places that have been selected for their breathtaking view. Before dark you will head back to camp, enjoy a hot shower then meet up around the campfire for refreshments.
